Professor Matthew Tirrell is Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He received his undergraduate education in Chemical Engineering at Northwestern University and his Ph.D. in 1977 in Polymer Science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Honors & Awards

Polymer Science and Engineering faculty are among the most prestigious scientists in the world.  NSF Faculty Career Awards that were recently given to Ryan Hayward and Harry Bermudez. Thomas Russell is a newly elected member of the National Academy of Engineers. He has also recently become co-director of a new DOE Energy Frontier Research Center. Al Crosby was given a Young Scientist Award from the Adhesion Society. A Gates Grand Challenges Explorations Grant for Innovative Global Health Research was given to Greg Tew who is involved in the fight against infectious deseases. Jim Watkins received the Samuel F.
