Re: Graduate School Fellowship Program

I am pleased to announce the continuation of the Graduate School Fellowship Program for the Academic Year 2007-08. The purpose of the Fellowship Program is to promote the recruitment and retention of academically excellent students. All graduate degree students are eligible, including previous Fellowship holders. Although the actual amount of the stipend has not yet been established, last year’s awards ranged between $10,000 to $15,000. In all cases, supplementation of Fellowship stipends will be permitted. The Fellowships will include a stipend, waiver of tuition and the Curriculum Fee, and arrangements for payment (by the Graduate School) of the mandatory Basic (for fall and spring semesters only) and the annual individual Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) fees. Please note: the payment of all other mandatory fees is the responsibility of the student. This information is also available on the Graduate School’s home page on the Internet at http://www.umass.edu/gradschool/

Guidelines for the submission of nominations are attached.
Please note the following:

  • Graduate Program Directors must rank each application prior to submission to the Graduate School.
  • Awards for incoming students will be made before the nominations for current students are due.
  • The Committee will strictly adhere to the attached prioritized lists of criteria when evaluating applications.
  • All materials must be submitted in 12-point font.

The Graduate Fellowship Committee is comprised this year of graduate faculty from the Departments of Anthropology, Kinesiology, Finance and Operations Management, Philosophy, Spanish & Portuguese and a graduate student appointed by the Graduate Student Senate. Questions about Fellowship nominations or awards should be addressed to:

Diane Gerrish, Graduate Dean's Office, 514 Goodell Building (545-5271 or graddean@resgs.umass.edu).
